Jugl Quick Tip: Monitor Device Usage with Apple Screen Time

Let Apple be your device usage police!

On the one hand, simply taking devices away is important (especially overnight), but there’s a lot to be said for introducing systems to play the “bad cop” to help us regulate kids activity on their devices.

Apple has created the new Screen Time feature in iOS 12. The free feature provides reporting and the ability to set limits on how much time you and/or your kids spend on iPhones and iPads.

Here’s how to set up Apple Screen Time if you’re interested.

Nanny-related resources

Great childcare is the foundation that a working parent’s life is built on.  Taking time to build and maintain a great relationship with your nanny (or other childcare provider) is essential.

Family Technology Contracts

Formal technology contracts are a really effective way to get kids (and adults) in the household on the same page regarding technology and facilitate open dialogue. If you are thinking about doing it, we highly recommend that you take the plunge!

Outside resources (and inspiration for ours):

Common Sense Media has a great template that Amy customized to create her family’s version (and also Jugl’s).

Janell Burley Hofmann’s hilarious and well-thought out phone rules are awesome and Amy used these for inspiration as well.

Is this movie appropriate for my kids?

We Jugl’rs LOVE movies, but we HATE having to exit the theater in a hurry with a screaming child or shut a film off in the middle of streaming because we’re scaring the living daylights out of our younger one or inadvertently teaching the kids every curse word known to man (#ParentFail: like when we totally forgot how much cursing there is in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!!!).  Common Sense Media’s reviews are pretty even-handed and help us to go in eyes wide open regarding content, language, sex, violence, etc.

They have similar resources for books, games, apps and more.
